Bring your own model key

Connect your own model provider key (OpenRouter one-click, or a pasted key) so model usage bills to your provider account instead of credits.

By default, everything a plori agent does draws from one pool of credits, model usage included. If you already have an account with a model provider, you can bring your own key (BYOK): model calls then bill to your provider account directly and stop drawing plori credits. It is the cheapest way to run heavy frontier workloads.

Supported providers

Provider Covers
OpenRouter Any model OpenRouter serves, one key for everything
OpenAI OpenAI models
DeepSeek DeepSeek models
Groq Models hosted on Groq
xAI Grok models
Together AI Models hosted on Together

OpenRouter is the universal option: one key routes any model, including Anthropic models. Native Anthropic keys are not currently supported; use an OpenRouter key for Claude.

Connecting a key

Keys are managed in Dashboard, then Settings.

OpenRouter, one click. Choose "Connect your OpenRouter account". You approve the connection on OpenRouter's site and land back in Settings, connected. There is no key to copy anywhere; the key is minted by OpenRouter and sealed server-side without ever passing through your browser.

Any provider, paste a key. Paste the key from your provider's console. plori validates it against the provider as you save, so a dead or mistyped key is caught immediately.

Saved keys are encrypted at rest and never shown again, to you or anyone else; Settings only shows that a key exists. Remove a key anytime and routing falls back to plori's hosted credits.

How routing picks your key

The model's name decides the provider. Run an OpenAI model with an OpenAI key saved and the call goes to your OpenAI account; likewise for each native provider. If you have an OpenRouter key, it covers every model that has no native key of its own. You keep using the same model picker in the chat header; once a key exists, the picker also lets you choose from your provider's models directly, or paste any model id.

What you pay with BYOK

  • Model usage on your key: zero credits. You pay your provider at their prices, with no plori markup.
  • Compute and disk: still credits. The agent's computer time and its disk are plori resources and bill as usual.

Because the expensive line item moved to your provider, BYOK is how the same plori plan stretches to heavy frontier work: the compute credits for a long run are small next to its model bill.
